What is EMDR?

EMDR is a therapy that helps people process old experiences that are showing up in present day patterns without having to talk in depth about it.

EMDR uses methods to have your brain do most of the processing which means less talking, less flashbacks, and quicker results. Together, we find the method that works best for you. Some people use eye movements while others prefer sounds or tapping. This technique helps your brain get memories unstuck!

I often use the metaphor of a filing cabinet. Your brain loves to organize things. Sometimes it files things in unhelpful places or it gets really stressed when trying to file and frogets where it put it or to put it somewhere and it can pile up on the desk. EMDR helps your brain file the experiences in a more helpful place. It takes the helpful information that it needs and can move on from the unhelpful information.

Since the brain is doing the work, therapy sessions don’t involve as much talking about the details, feeling as if those past moments are happening again, or needing as much time to build safety with the therapist.

Many people who do weekly sessions of EMDR say they notice positive changes after just 3 sessions! For the folks who do intensives (4 hours in 1 day) say they are able to process several impactful memories that would have taken them months in therapy!

Does it feel like you keep playing out the same cycles and patterns no matter what you try?

Do you feel like past memories and experiences feel as if they are happening again?

Are you stuck and confused why you do the things you do?

What is an EMDR intensive?

Because of the rapid healing that can occur in EMDR, many people benefit from having longer sessions less frequently! Imagine not having to attend counseling every week, feeling defeated or stuck. Instead, you can make progress after a couple of hours and feel more motivated and like you’re making a difference in your patterns.

4 hour long EMDR intensive

  • This time frame allows people to do the prep work and start targeting their stressful and traumatic memories in single sessions rather than spacing it out over a month to two months.

  • Cost $800 When: Fridays

  • This cost tends to save more money and time down the road as people report making large amounts of progress and not needing as long of regular therapy treatment.

  • If 4 hours seems too long for you, but you are interested in longer sessions, I have limited spots for 2 hour long intensives that would meet 2 times a month.

Bonus- you can do unlimited intensives! If you find that you benefited greatly from 1 intensive session, you can always schedule more down the road if you ever need to quickly process additional life events.

EMDR Intensives

  • Intensives work great for people who want quick change and are ready to dig deep.

  • This is a great option if you have a weekly therapist and find that most of your sessions are playing catch up rather than diving into the deeper work you were hoping. (yes, you can keep seeing your weekly therapist. In fact, it is encouraged for the deepest healing!)

  • Instead of spending most of your time filling in the details from each week, you can spend majority of the session tapping into these experiences to find clarity and move forward.

  • You can feel really productive afterwards! Imagine how good you feel after learning something new in therapy, and multiply this by 4!! You can gain so much insight and feel like you’ve made a lot of progess in your mental health by focusing on yourself one time a month!
